Gov. Jim Justice Maintains Strong Lead Over Congressman Alex Mooney in U.S. Senate Race, West Virginia Poll Shows

Gov. Jim Justice continues to maintain a significant lead over Congressman Alex Mooney in the race for U.S. Senate, according to the latest MetroNews West Virginia Poll. With the primary election approaching, Justice has the support of 67% of likely voters compared to Mooney’s 23%.

The poll, conducted by Research America, shows that there has been very little change in the candidates’ standings since the prior poll released on April 12. Rex Repass, president of Research America, noted that the demographics are overwhelmingly in favor of Justice, indicating a lack of volatility in the race and suggesting that voters have already made up their minds.

The West Virginia Poll, which surveyed registered Republicans and independents planning to request a Republican ballot for the May 14 primary, included respondents from all 55 counties in the state. The overall confidence interval was +/- 4.9 percentage points.

While early voting is already underway, Mooney’s campaign has been actively seeking endorsements and support, including a recent rally with Senator Ted Cruz. Despite his efforts, Mooney still trails behind Justice in both the West Virginia Poll and a separate poll conducted by Osage Research.

As the primary election draws near, it appears that Justice is poised for a strong victory. While Mooney may appeal to very strong conservatives, Repass believes that it is unlikely to significantly impact the final results.

With Justice’s background as a two-term governor and business owner, and Mooney’s experience as a congressman, the race for U.S. Senate in West Virginia is shaping up to be one to watch. Stay tuned for more updates as the election approaches.
