Republican and Independent Voters Focus on GOP Nominee for West Virginia Governor
The race for the GOP nomination for governor of West Virginia is heating up as the primary election approaches. According to the latest poll from Emerson College Polling and Nexstar Media, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey continues to lead among the top four GOP candidates, with 28% of respondents supporting him. However, former House Judiciary Committee Chairman Moore Capito has seen a significant jump in support, now at 25%, putting him within striking distance of Morrisey.
Morrisey has been touting support from former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Donald Trump Jr., emphasizing his pro-Trump stance. Capito, on the other hand, has received an endorsement from Gov. Jim Justice and has been campaigning with him over the last month.
Huntington businessman Chris Miller and Secretary of State Mac Warner also saw increases in support in the poll, with Miller at 19% and Warner at 12%. The number of undecided voters decreased significantly, from 29% in March to 16% in the latest poll.
The poll also revealed that Morrisey leads among registered Republican voters, while Capito’s strength lies with independents and unaffiliated voters. Concerns about transgender issues, inflation, and illegal immigration were also highlighted in the poll, with respondents showing more concern about the latter two issues.
With Election Day approaching, the race for the GOP nomination for governor of West Virginia is becoming increasingly competitive, with each candidate vying for support from voters across the state.
