West Virginia Primary Election Preview: Governor Justice Running for Senate, Competitive Races Expected

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a former billionaire and owner of the Greenbrier Resort, is making a bold move by running for Senate in the upcoming election. With term limits preventing him from seeking reelection as governor, Justice has set his sights on Washington, where he hopes to secure a seat currently held by Democratic Senator Joe Manchin.

Justice, who switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party in 2017, is considered the front-runner in the GOP primary for Senate. His main competitor is Rep. Alex Mooney, with five other Republicans also in the running. On the Democratic side, controversial figure Don Blankenship, who previously ran as a Republican in the 2018 Senate race, is seeking the nomination, along with Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott and Marine Corps veteran Zach Shrewsbury.

In addition to the Senate race, West Virginia is also gearing up for competitive primaries for governor and various other statewide offices. The presidential primaries are expected to be less contentious, with both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden likely to secure easy victories.

As the primary election approaches, all eyes are on West Virginia to see how the races unfold. Stay tuned for updates on the results and implications for the upcoming general election.
