Governor Jim Justice Endorses Moore Capito in West Virginia Gubernatorial Race

CHARLESTON – In a move that could have significant implications for the upcoming West Virginia gubernatorial race, Governor Jim Justice has officially endorsed fellow Republican Moore Capito. Capito, a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and the son of U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, has received the backing of the incumbent governor as he vies for the Republican nomination.

Justice, who is also running for the Republican nomination for West Virginia’s U.S. Senate seat, emphasized the importance of the governor’s race in the state. He stated that voters have been asking him for months about his endorsement and expressed their desire to continue the positive momentum in West Virginia.

In his endorsement message, Justice praised Capito’s family legacy, citing his grandfather, former Governor Arch Moore, and his mother, Senator Shelley Moore Capito. He expressed confidence in Capito’s vision and knowledge to elevate West Virginia and wished him success in the race.

The gubernatorial race features six Republican candidates, including Capito, current Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, current Secretary of State Mac Warner, Chris Miller, Mitch Roberts, and Kevin “KC” Christian. On the Democratic side, Stephen Williams is running unopposed for the nomination, while Chase Linko-Looper has filed under the Mountain Party ticket.

While polling in the race has been limited, some polls have shown Morrisey leading the contest. However, a recent Metro News poll indicated a close race between Morrisey and Capito, with Morrisey holding a slim 2-point lead.

With early voting set to begin soon and Election Day approaching, the endorsement from Governor Justice could provide a significant boost to Capito’s campaign. Justice highlighted the opportunity for voters to support a unified Republican team in Washington and emphasized the importance of putting President Trump back in the White House.

Absentee voting by mail is already underway in West Virginia, with the deadline to request an absentee ballot set for May 8. The deadline to register to vote for the May 14 primary is April 23, with early voting scheduled from May 1 to May 11.
