Exclusive US Coverage and Analysis: Mitt Romney Speaks Out on Trump’s Hush Money Payment

Former Republican Senator Mitt Romney has once again made headlines with his scathing remarks about former President Donald Trump. Romney did not hold back when discussing Trump’s hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, calling into question the former president’s character.

In a recent statement to reporters, Romney stated, “I think everyone has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character. And as far as I know, you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.” These comments come as Trump is currently on trial in New York on felony charges related to the hush money payment made to Daniels during the 2016 presidential election.

Romney, who has been vocal about his disapproval of Trump in the past, has once again reiterated his stance. In December, he announced that he would not support Trump in the 2024 presidential election and would not rule out voting for President Joe Biden if the two were to face off in the final ballot.

The former presidential candidate has been critical of Trump’s behavior, particularly in relation to the January 6th attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters. Romney believes that Trump’s actions leading up to the attack were intentional and aimed at disrupting the peaceful transfer of power.

A recent poll by Reuters/Ipsos found that a majority of Americans would not vote for Trump if he were convicted of a felony or serving time in prison before the presidential election. Romney’s outspoken criticism of Trump continues to highlight the deep divide within the Republican party and the ongoing debate over Trump’s influence in American politics.
