The New York Times/Siena College Poll Reveals Views on Trump’s Respect for Women

The New York Times/Siena College poll recently asked voters how much they believe former President Trump respects women, and the results were surprising. A majority of men, 54 percent, said that Trump respects women either “a lot” or “some,” while only 31 percent of women shared that view.

Despite Trump’s history of controversial statements and actions towards women, including being on trial for covering up a sex scandal involving a porn star, his support among men remains strong. In fact, our poll found that Trump has a 20-percentage-point lead among men, while President Biden leads among women by 16 percentage points.

The gender gap in how Trump is perceived by voters is crucial in the upcoming election, with Democrats hoping to win over more women voters who may be turned off by Trump’s behavior. The perception of Trump’s respect for women has actually decreased slightly since 2016, indicating a shift in public opinion.

Men who support Trump often cite his business experience and personal staffing choices as evidence of his respect for women, despite his controversial past. On the other hand, women voters, especially those who identify as Democrats, are more likely to view Trump negatively due to his treatment of women and his policies on issues like abortion rights.

As the election approaches, the divide in how men and women view Trump’s respect for women will continue to play a significant role in shaping voter preferences. The upcoming Supreme Court hearing on Trump’s claim of presidential immunity will also be closely watched, as it could impact whether Trump faces trial for his actions before the next election.
