GOP Candidates Lead Fundraising in West Virginia Federal Races
West Virginia’s Republican U.S. Senate primary and House of Representatives races are heating up as candidates report their fundraising numbers for the first quarter of the year. Governor Jim Justice leads in fundraising for the Senate race, with U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney close behind. In the House races, Rep. Carol Miller and State Treasurer Riley Moore are ahead of their GOP competitors.
Justice raised over $400,000 in the first quarter and has raised over $2.4 million so far in the election cycle. Mooney raised over $300,000 in the same period. Several political action committees are also spending money to support or oppose these candidates.
In the Democratic primary for the Senate, Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott and Mercer County community organizer Zachary Shrewsbury are leading in fundraising.
In the Republican primary for the 2nd Congressional District, State Treasurer Riley Moore has the most cash-on-hand, despite retired West Virginia Air National Guard brigadier general Chris “Mookie” Walker quickly accumulating a large campaign war chest. Other GOP candidates in the district have raised substantially less.
In the GOP primary for the 1st Congressional District, Rep. Carol Miller continues to outpace convicted Jan. 6 participant Derrick Evans in donations.
The races are heating up as candidates prepare for the primaries, with significant fundraising numbers indicating strong competition ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on these races.
