Steve Williams Launches Petition for Reproductive Freedom Ballot Measure in West Virginia

Steve Williams, a Democrat running for governor in West Virginia, is making waves with his latest initiative to push for reproductive freedom in the state. Williams has launched a state-wide petition calling on Governor Jim Justice to include the issue on the agenda for the upcoming legislative special session.

The goal of the petition is to urge Governor Justice to approve a ballot measure that would give voters the opportunity to reinstate abortion rights in West Virginia. Williams, who is currently the mayor of Huntington, emphasized the importance of letting the people decide on this crucial issue.

Citing former President Donald Trump’s stance on leaving abortion decisions up to the states, Williams stressed that reproductive freedom should not be a partisan issue. He believes that West Virginia voters deserve the chance to have their voices heard on restoring this fundamental freedom.

Despite the lack of traction during the regular session, Williams remains determined to push for a ballot measure that would allow voters to decide on reproductive rights. With the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, the issue of abortion rights has become even more pressing for many states, including West Virginia.

While the four prominent Republican men running for governor have expressed their support for maintaining the current abortion ban in West Virginia, Williams is adamant about giving the voters a say in the matter. He has made the petition available online at www.freedomwv.com, urging opponents of reproductive freedom to allow the people to decide.

As the state lawmakers prepare for a special session to address lingering budget issues, the debate over reproductive freedom is expected to take center stage. With Williams leading the charge, the fight for abortion rights in West Virginia is far from over.
