Gov. Kristi Noem’s New Book to Correct False Anecdote about Meeting Kim Jong-un

The upcoming release of Gov. Kristi Noem’s new book has been surrounded by controversy as it was revealed that a false anecdote about her meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be corrected before its official publication on Tuesday. The biography, titled “No Going Back,” also includes errors about a phone call with Nikki Haley, which will be addressed in future editions of the book.

In the book, Ms. Noem describes her meeting with Kim Jong-un during her time in Congress, highlighting her experience dealing with foreign leaders. However, a spokesman for Ms. Noem confirmed that the anecdote was inaccurate and that Kim Jong-un should not have been included in the list of world leaders she met with.

Additionally, the book includes a conversation with Nikki Haley that suggests a threat from the former South Carolina governor. However, a spokeswoman for Ms. Haley disputed the accuracy of the story, stating that Ms. Haley had actually called to offer support during a challenging time for Ms. Noem.

Despite these corrections, the memoir aims to boost Ms. Noem’s profile as a potential running mate for former President Donald J. Trump. It emphasizes her loyalty to Mr. Trump, including her defense of him following the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

However, much of the attention surrounding the book has focused on a grisly excerpt in which Ms. Noem describes killing a family dog, Cricket, to her daughter’s distress. Ms. Noem defended her decision to include the story in the book, stating that it illustrates the tough decisions she has had to make throughout her life.
