West Virginia Congressional Primaries Bring in Campaign Cash in Final Days

The race for the U.S. Senate seat in West Virginia is heating up as the primary election on May 14 approaches. U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney has the most cash-on-hand, but Governor Jim Justice has been outraising him in the latest reporting period and overall for the election cycle. Mooney raised $57,601 during the reporting period, while Justice raised $77,259, leaving him with $750,291 in cash-on-hand.

In the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, community organizer Zachary Shrewsbury has pulled in more contributions than Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott, but Elliott has more cash-on-hand. Shrewsbury raised $103,828 for the reporting period, while Elliott raised $15,200.

In the GOP primary for the 2nd Congressional District, retired Brig. Gen. Chris “Mookie” Walker is catching up to State Treasurer Riley Moore in fundraising, but Moore has more cash-on-hand. Walker raised $171,134 during the reporting period, while Moore raised $57,267.

In the 1st Congressional District, convicted Jan. 6 rioter Derrick Evans has nearly caught up to U.S. Rep. Carol Miller in fundraising. Evans raised $120,394 for the period, while Miller raised $30,663.

The candidates are hustling to raise funds as voters begin casting their ballots early. The race is expected to be closely contested, with candidates from both parties vying for their party’s nomination. Stay tuned for more updates as the primary election draws near.
