Club for Growth Evaluating Key Senate Races and House Contests for Influence
The conservative Club for Growth is gearing up to make a significant impact in key Senate races, with endorsements already announced for three contenders and more evaluations underway.
The group has thrown its support behind Florida Sen. Rick Scott, as well as non-incumbents Indiana Rep. Jim Banks and West Virginia Rep. Alex Mooney. However, the Club is still considering its options in other races, including Montana where Rep. Matt Rosendale is weighing a potential run.
Club for Growth president David McIntosh emphasized the group’s high regard for Rosendale, but also noted the impressive candidacy of Republican Tim Sheehy, who has garnered endorsements from prominent Montana Republicans. The Club is keeping a close eye on the developing fields in Michigan and Wisconsin as well.
In Ohio, the group has interviewed Secretary of State Frank LaRose and businessman Bernie Moreno, but McIntosh indicated that neither candidate aligns with the Club’s “pro-growth” platform. The GOP fields in Nevada and Arizona are also still taking shape, with Army veteran Sam Brown standing out in Nevada.
The Club’s primary focus appears to be on the West Virginia race, where Mooney is challenging GOP Gov. Jim Justice in the primary to potentially face Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin. The Club has committed significant resources to support Mooney, setting up a showdown with GOP leaders who are backing Justice.
Despite past clashes with Senate leadership and former President Donald Trump in primary races, the Club for Growth is forging ahead with its mission to influence key races. The group is also looking to make an impact in House races through its “Patriot 20” program, pledging $20 million to support select GOP House members.
With plans to surpass its record-breaking spending in the 2022 midterms, the Club for Growth is poised to play a major role in shaping the political landscape leading up to the next election cycle.
