Senate Fundraising Update: Democrats Outraise Republicans by $19 Million in Key Races
Democratic candidates are dominating the fundraising game in key Senate races that will determine control of the Senate this year. According to campaign finance records, Democrats have outraised their Republican opponents by a combined $19 million in the first three months of the year.
In seven crucial races in states like Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin, Democrats brought in over $53 million compared to Republicans’ roughly $35 million. Despite spending nearly twice as much as their Republican counterparts, the Democratic candidates still have a significant financial advantage, with a total of $84 million in their bank accounts at the end of last month. In contrast, the seven GOP candidates had less than a third of that amount, with only $26 million between them.
The fundraising disparity is particularly evident in races like Ohio, where Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown raised $12.1 million, significantly more than his Republican opponent Bernie Moreno, who lent himself $1.5 million. In Texas, Democratic Rep. Colin Allred outpaced incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, raising $9.5 million to Cruz’s $7 million.
The outcome of these Senate races is crucial for both parties, as control of the Senate hangs in the balance. With Democrats eyeing key states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona, the success or failure of their campaigns could coincide with the outcomes of the Senate races in those states.
Overall, the fundraising numbers indicate a strong showing for Democratic candidates in these key Senate races, setting the stage for a competitive and high-stakes battle for control of the Senate in the upcoming election.
