Trump falsely claims he’s not allowed to testify due to hush money gag order
Former President Donald Trump made headlines once again as he returned to Manhattan Criminal Court for the hush money trial. Trump, who has been on the campaign trail in Wisconsin and Michigan, is facing allegations of violating a gag order related to the case.
Judge Juan Merchan is considering four additional violations of the gag order, with Trump already being fined $9,000 for previous infractions. The judge has warned that Trump could face “incarceratory punishment” if he continues to bad-mouth key participants in the trial.
Trump’s legal team claims that he is responding to attacks from former fixer Michael Cohen and President Joe Biden. The trial also saw the testimony of Keith Davidson, the former lawyer for Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, who negotiated the sale of their stories to ensure their silence.
In a separate development, a recording played to the jury featured Cohen stating that Trump expressed regret over the hush money plot, saying, “I hate the fact we did it.” Cohen responded by affirming that it was the right course of action.
The trial, covered by The Independent’s Alex Woodward, continues to unfold with new revelations and testimonies. Stay tuned for more updates on this high-profile case.
