West Virginia Legislature Wraps Up Special Session with All 15 Bills Passed

The West Virginia Legislature recently concluded a special session with Governor Jim Justice announcing the passage of all 15 bills he detailed in his initial call for the session. The bills primarily focused on budgetary corrections and supplementations, including the restoration of budgets for the Department of Health, Department of Human Services, and additional funds for the Department of Transportation.

In addition to budget-related bills, a measure was passed to create funding for higher education institutions in West Virginia to help schools address delays with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This funding aims to assist schools in navigating issues that have arisen since the recent update to the FAFSA system.

Following the conclusion of the special session, Governor Justice expressed disappointment with some state legislators in a statement. He emphasized the importance of restoring budgets for essential services and medical providers to ensure the well-being of West Virginia residents.

The full list of bills discussed during the special session can be found on the West Virginia Legislature website. This session highlighted the state’s commitment to addressing budgetary needs and supporting education institutions in the face of challenges.
