In a recent poll conducted by Bloomberg News and Morning Consult, it has been revealed that an increasing number of voters in key swing states have expressed confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris’ ability to serve as president if President Joe Biden is unable to complete his term for any reason. This development could potentially neutralize a common Republican attack line regarding Mr. Biden’s age.

The poll found that nearly half of swing state voters, totaling 48 percent, now trust Vice President Harris to take over the presidency in the event that President Biden is unable to continue his term. This marks a significant increase in confidence in Ms. Harris since the last time voters were asked about her ability to serve as president.

While Vice President Harris still trails behind former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, the poll also revealed that she is the preferred choice among respondents to take on Mr. Trump if President Biden is unable to finish the 2024 campaign. Other potential presidential hopefuls like Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker were also considered in the survey.

As the first woman, first African-American, and first person of Asian descent to serve as Vice President, Ms. Harris has faced challenges in the past with her public profile and policy portfolio. However, the White House and President Biden’s re-election campaign have strategically utilized her in more assertive roles, particularly in pushing back against Republican efforts to ban books and restrict reproductive rights.

Overall, the poll results indicate a growing confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris among voters in key swing states, positioning her as a strong contender for future leadership roles in the Democratic party.
