Senators Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Reject ICC Prosecutor’s Application for Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders
In a bipartisan effort, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has joined forces with Sens. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to introduce a resolution rejecting the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) application for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The ICC prosecutor recently announced plans to seek arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and three Hamas leaders, citing alleged war crimes. This move has sparked outrage among U.S. lawmakers, who argue that Israel’s actions are in self-defense against Hamas terrorism.
Kennedy, Rounds, and Manchin are leading the charge against the ICC’s decision, with Kennedy stating, “America must stand up to the International Criminal Court for abusing its power against our greatest ally in the Middle East.” Rounds added, “It is unconscionable that the ICC prosecutor would seek arrest warrants for Israeli leaders for defending against Hamas terrorists.”
The resolution, cosponsored by a number of senators from both parties, condemns the ICC’s actions and reaffirms support for Israel’s right to defend itself. The text of the resolution can be found on Sen. Kennedy’s website.
This bipartisan effort highlights the strong support for Israel within the U.S. Senate and sends a clear message to the international community that the U.S. stands with Israel in the face of unjust accusations.
