Rep. Alex Mooney Campaigns in Wheeling, Sets Sights on U.S. Senate Seat
U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney Makes Case for Senate Run in West Virginia
U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney is confident he can secure the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in West Virginia, citing his past success in rallying support to win elections. Mooney, who defeated former U.S. Rep. David McKinley in the 2022 congressional race after initially trailing in polls, believes he can do the same against Gov. Jim Justice.
During a recent economic development roundtable in Wheeling, Mooney highlighted key differences between himself and Justice, particularly on issues like healthcare and energy. Mooney criticized Justice for supporting government-run healthcare and expressed his desire to repeal the Affordable Care Act. He also emphasized the importance of supporting the oil and gas industry in the state.
Illegal immigration was another topic discussed at the roundtable, with Mooney voicing support for legal immigration while criticizing the Biden administration’s handling of border security. Mooney stressed the need for upholding the rule of law and legal ports of entry for immigrants.
Mooney’s campaign focuses on conservative values and policy positions, contrasting with what he sees as personal attacks from his opponent. Endorsed by Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul, Mooney believes he can push for conservative reforms without bankrupting the country.
As he continues his campaign across the state, Mooney plans to reach out to voters in southern West Virginia, a region he has not previously represented. He believes that connecting with conservative voters in the southern part of the state, who share his faith and values, will help close the polling gap between him and Justice.
With a strong emphasis on faith, values, and conservative principles, Mooney is positioning himself as the candidate who can best represent the interests of West Virginians in the U.S. Senate.
