West Virginia Primary Election Results: Voter Turnout and Key Races

The West Virginia primary election results are in, and with only a 30.32% turnout, it was clear that voter engagement was lacking. Key statewide races were up for grabs, including the U.S. Senate and West Virginia governor positions.

Current Governor Jim Justice (R) will face Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott (D) for Manchin’s U.S. Senate seat. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey won the Republican nomination for governor and will go up against Huntington Mayor Steve Williams (D) and Mountain Party nominee Chase Linko-Looper.

Grant County had the highest voter turnout percentage at 43.93%, while Berkeley County had the lowest at 17.83%. In Berkeley County, the race for U.S. Senator was tight, with Alex Mooney and Glenn Elliott narrowly securing their nominations.

Morrisey won 34 counties out of West Virginia’s 55, with Miller and Capito taking the rest. Capito won the most populous county, Kanawha County, along with several others.

Overall, the primary election results show a mix of winners across the state, with voter turnout varying in different counties. Stay tuned for more updates on the West Virginia 2024 Primary Election results.
