West Virginia Primary Election Results: Voter Turnout and Key Races
The West Virginia primary election results are in, and with only a 30.32% voter turnout, it seems that many residents did not make it to the polls. Despite this, there were key statewide races up for grabs, including the U.S. Senate and West Virginia governor positions.
Current Governor Jim Justice (R) will face Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott (D) for Manchin’s U.S. Senate seat. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey won the Republican nomination for governor and will be up against Huntington Mayor Steve Williams (D) and Mountain Party nominee Chase Linko-Looper.
In terms of voter turnout, Grant County had the highest percentage of voters at 43.93%, while Berkeley County had the lowest at 17.83%. Morrisey won 34 counties out of West Virginia’s 55, with Miller taking 11 and Capito taking 10. Capito won the most populous county, Kanawha County.
Overall, the primary election results show a mix of winners across the state, with some surprises in key races. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming general election.
