SF Giants Owner Charles B. Johnson Continues to Fund Republican Candidates and Super Pacs
The Republican Party’s reliance on financial support from SF Giants principal owner Charles B. Johnson has once again come into the spotlight as Johnson has made significant donations to Republican candidates and Super Pacs during this election cycle. Johnson, who donated nearly $3.77 million during the last election cycle, has already made a maximum $6,600 donation to Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis, who is seen as a major contender in the Republican primary for the 2024 election, has faced recent reports of financial struggles in his campaign. Despite his far-right rhetoric and controversial policies as Florida’s governor, including restrictions on LGBTQIA+ rights and book bans, DeSantis continues to receive support from donors like Johnson.
In addition to his donation to DeSantis, Johnson also contributed $2,900 to West Virginia Republican Alex Mooney, who has faced ethics investigations and has been a vocal supporter of former president Donald Trump. Mooney, who has defended the January 6th coup attempt, has been accused of violating congressional ethics and federal law.
As the 2024 election cycle heats up, the financial support from donors like Johnson to controversial candidates like DeSantis and Mooney raises questions about the influence of money in politics and the future of the Republican Party.
