CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin showed off his physical prowess on Wednesday as he tested out the new state-of-the-art Outdoor Fitness Court at the University of Charleston. The event, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, was a celebration of the university’s commitment to health and wellness in the community.

The Outdoor Fitness Court features a variety of workout stations, including pull-up bars, squat and lunge boxes, bend and push-up stations, and more. Senator Manchin joined student athletes at UC in breaking in the new court, emphasizing the importance of staying active and healthy.

In a statement, Manchin praised UC for its contributions to the Capital City, saying, “University of Charleston has just been so accommodating to this great city of ours and now to be able to do this for the health industry, you can have a walk here, you can have the exercises, it’s really a tremendous thing for the community.”

The new court is designed to provide a full-body workout in just 7 minutes and is open to the public for use. With a QR code on the court, users can access guided instructions with video tutorials for each exercise, catering to all skill levels. UC Director of Athletics, Dr. Bren Stevens, highlighted the benefits of the court for campus sports teams, providing additional equipment options for training.

Installation of the court was made possible through the National Fitness Campaign, a program aimed at making fitness courts more accessible nationwide. UC President Marty Roth expressed excitement about the impact the court will have on the community, emphasizing the importance of health and wellness for students, employees, and residents alike.

The new Outdoor Fitness Court is conveniently located between the indoor fitness center and the Boat House on UC’s campus, offering a free and easily accessible option for individuals looking to stay active and fit. With the addition of this new facility, UC continues to prioritize the well-being of its community members and promote a healthy lifestyle for all.
