West Virginia State Senator Ryan Weld Responds to Accusations of Protecting Pedophiles
West Virginia State Senator Ryan Weld is pushing back against accusations made by a Political Action Committee (PAC), WV Family Foundation, claiming he is protecting pedophiles. The PAC’s recent ad on Facebook alleges that Weld’s Senate Bill 616, which passed unanimously in 2022, protects the identity of convicted sex offenders. Weld vehemently denies these claims, stating that the bill actually protects the identities of victims to prevent revictimization during court processes.
In a statement to 7News, Weld expressed his frustration with the false accusations, calling them demeaning to those seeking protection under the law. As a former prosecutor and advocate for victims of sexual violence, Weld emphasized the personal and invasive nature of these crimes and the importance of protecting victims throughout the legal process.
Weld has taken action against the WV Family Foundation, sending a Cease-and-Desist letter to stop the misleading ads. He is determined to defend his character and reputation, stating that he will not tolerate such attacks. Weld’s record of advocacy for victims of sexual violence is something he is proud of, and he has worked with state police and advocacy groups to further protect victims through legislation.
Recently, Weld partnered with a state sexual advocacy group to make sexually abusing a spouse a crime in West Virginia. His dedication to protecting victims and fighting against false accusations demonstrates his commitment to serving his constituents and standing up for what is right.
